Kawartha Lakes offers a variety of scenic trails through picturesque forests. Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park is just 10 minutes from the cottage and provides over 8 acres of safe trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park is located in the northeast corner of Bobcaygeon, just off County Road 36. Another great option for cross country skiing is Ken Reid Conservation Area with over 272 acres of meadow and forest. It contains 12 interconnected trail loops totalling almost 12 km. In the winter time the beautiful forests turn into 166 km of groomed routes perfect for snowmobiling. Trail users must have a valid permit, license and insurance. The Kawartha region features multiple skating rinks, both outdoor and indoor. Logie Park Skating Loop is 25 minutes away from the cottage, open daily from 12 to 6 pm. There are also plenty of indoor and outdoor rinks around Bobcaygeon and Lindsay. For more information on these rinks, check out their website.

Maple syrup farming is a long standing tradition in Kawartha Lakes. Every spring when the snow starts to melt, the maple sugaring season begins. Local farms offer maple syrup tours and tastings. Located 40 minutes away is Kawartha Maple Farm that offers tours every February to April. For more information on their tours and products, check out their website.

If you are looking for a unique experience, try ice fishing! Kawartha region offers a Family Fishing Weekend on February 16-18. During this weekend, the Ontario Government allows residents to fish license-free. The Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters hosts a Family Ice Fishing Day on Saturday February 16 from 10 am to 2 pm. At no cost, families can use prepared fishing holes including tackle and bait! Snowshoeing is a great option for those who want to enjoy nature by doing a low impact activity. It’s an inexpensive activity that can be enjoyed by all ages and fitness levels. There are more than 600 kms of trails: one of which is Windy Ridge Conservation Area, a 87 acre property offering a stunning view. It is located at 998 Mount Horeb Road and features an easy 1.3km loop trail perfect for kids and families.
